What is Full Body Harness?
Full Body Harness in short safety harness is a special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to use while working at height, it prevent a user to prevent fall on ground while working at height specially above 1.8 M.
Components of Full Body Harness?
Following are the general components or part of safety harness;
- Shoulder Strap
- Fall arrest attachment
- Shoulder Strap Retainer
- Pelvic Strap
- Thigh Strap
- Buckles
- Lanyard
- Hook
Now lets discover types of full body harness:
As per IS 3521: 1999 there are five types of full body harness-
- Class A - Fall arresting harness
- Class D - Controlled descent harness
- Class E - Confined space entry/exit harness
- Class L - Ladder climbing harness
- Class P - Work positioning harness
Class A - Fall arresting harness
Consists of a D - Ring at the back side of shoulder strap, use while working at height such as on scaffolding or any temporary planform where there is risk of fall from height.
Class D - Controlled descent harness
Consists of a D - Ring at the front side side at the chest level, use while lowering from height.
Class E - Confined space entry/exit harness
Consists of two D - Ring on the shoulder strap, use while working inside confined space, it helps to drag, or lift person during rescue in case of emergency.
Class L - Ladder climbing harness
Consists of two D -Ring at he chest level on strap, use while climbing and lowering by ladder.
Class P - Work positioning harness
Use while work at height and need both hand free for work in hanging position, such as for painting and cleanings heigh rise buildings, it consists of two D -Ring at the waist level.
